Hôm thì đội thẳng, hôm thì nghiêng phải, hôm thì nghiêng trái, có hôm chỉ khẽ đặt nhẹ chiếc mũ lên chỏm đầu, có hôm lại kéo mũ xuống sùm sụp chỉ còn hé ra một vệt sáng tí teo. Còn đến hôm rằm thì trăng sẽ không đội một cái mũ nào đâu. Bé chờ đến rằm để xem nhé.

Some nights, the moon is perfectly round—big and bright and glowing—round like a Western dinner plate, radiant and dazzling and sparkling. But there are also nights when you can only see a tiny sliver of the moon, and the rest is hidden away in darkness. Do you know why that is?

It's because on some nights, the moon is wearing a hat! And the moon has many different kinds of hats, sewn by a special tailor—like a witch's hat, a pirate hat, or a magician's hat. That's why the way the moon appears each night is different.

If you observe the moon every day of the month, you’ll see it wears a different hat each day, and even wears it differently each time. Some nights, it wears the hat straight. Other nights, it's tilted to the right, or to the left. Sometimes, the moon just gently perches the hat on the top of its head. Other times, it pulls the hat way down so only a tiny bit of light peeks out.

But on the night of the full moon, the moon doesn’t wear a hat at all.
